Khamzat Chimaev is set to fight Leon Edwards in March. The bout has already fallen twice due to both parties having health issues. Neil Magny offered to fight Chimaev upon the first cancellation in December. But Chimaev rather opted to wait for Edwards to recover. ‘The Haitian Dream’ fought Chiesa instead.

Magny lost a lopsided decision to Chiesa as ‘Maverick’ showed his rejuvenated version in Fight Island. ‘Borz’ kept a close eye as two top contenders in his division clashed, taking to Twitter to poke Magny after the latter’s defeat.

Magny is a very respectful fighter and not one to trash talk his opponents. But Chimaev’s antics infuriated him. He also went on social media to warn the Swede that he will slap him when they cross paths. He also pointed out that Chimaev wasn’t quite willing to fight him when he offered to step up.

In a series of replies, Magny pointed out Chimaev’s lack of time in the organization. Also, the Russian-born fighter has only competed once in the 170lbs division of the UFC, yet he is getting cream of the crop contender in Edwards. As for Magny, he has been in the organization for nearly a decade and has fought all comers. He sure has his reason to be not happy with his fellow contender’s comments.

Khamzat Chimaev can potentially secure a title shot with a win next

Chimaev fights a division’s elite in March. After his UFC debut loss, ‘Rocky’ has come short only once since. That was against the current champion, Kamaru Usman. He has defeated perennial contenders like Rafael dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, Bryan Barberena, Gunnar Nelson, and more on his way to the top.

Chimaev on the other hand has not faced any high-quality opposition to date. Despite being ranked No.15, he is yet to face any stern test inside the Octagon. Edwards is certainly more than a test for him. But should he get past the Brit with flying colors, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get a shot at UFC gold right away considering the hype behind him. Nevertheless, it only makes the landscape of the 170 lbs division more intriguing.
