After getting dominated in the first round, Pena came back roaring, dismantled the champion, and eventually submitted her. Since the defeat, neither Nunes nor her coaches have said anything about her performance. However, her ATT partner, Amanda Ribas, has spoken about it.

While speaking on an episode of MMA Fighting’s Portuguese-language podcast Trocação Franca, Ribas said, “Maybe she had sinusitis and nobody knew. Imagine getting punched in the face and when you see it, wow. Nobody knows. Maybe she didn’t recovered well from her weight cut. I haven’t spoken with her so I don’t know. Nobody knows what happened that day”

“In my opinion, I thought she looked a little, I don’t know, kind of the same way I was in my fight with Marina [Rodriguez]. I was fine, I was prepared, but [wasn’t 100 percent there]. And sometimes the Venezuelan was more active, wanted it more.”

“It was sad, but I know she’ll bounce back. She’s still the [featherweight] champion. She’s only lost one belt and I’m sure she will reclaim it. [Peña] said she’ll give her an immediate rematch, and I can’t wait for it,” she added.

Julianna Pena wants to fight Amanda Nunes again

With her historic win against ‘The Lioness,’ Pena shocked the world. According to her, Nunes can’t handle being bullied as she is used to being the bully. That game plan helped her throw Nunes off her game and get the win.

The new women’s bantamweight champion recently appeared in The MMA Hour and revealed that she would give Nunes the rematch. She said, “If it don’t make money, it don’t make sense. So, I want to fight Amanda for the rematch for the championship belt again.”

A rematch between the two will definitely attract a lot of attention and will be one of the most talked about fights. What do you think was the reason for Nunes’ defeat? Who do you think wins in the rematch? Let us know in the comments!
