Khamzat Chimaev is a perfect villain, which is why so many people like him. Chael Sonnen, Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather, and Mike Tyson all found immense success playing the bad guy. Jake Paul is another example of how popular and successful one can get, even with little fighting experience or pedigree.

And #6 ranked middleweight Paulo Costa is determined to beat the villain in his upcoming fight against Chimaev at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi on October 21 this year. The Brazilian talked about how he feels about Chimaev and what he intends to do to him in an interview with MMA Junkie.

The interviewer asked Paulo Costa if this was the most personal fight in his career. Chimaev has said that not only will he beat ‘The Eraser’, but also make him cry in the cage. Costa started off by saying that his bout against Israel Adesanya at UFC 253 was the most personal to him. Costa then talked about the disdain and revulsion he has for Chimaev, whom he dislikes. He frankly spoke about his desire to make ‘Borz’ suffer in the cage, and to do it with style.

“I think against Adesanya is [was] a kind of uh very personal fight. But, yes, I hate that that dude [Chimaev]. So I gonna, I’m training just to make him suffer, you know? Not only, uh, beat him, but I want to do that in great style, you know?” said Costa.

He told the interviewer that he had stepped up his training in the run-up to the Chimaev fight. ‘The Eraser’ wanted to face the Chechen at the peak of his mental, physical, and technical prowess. He also relished the opportunity to beat the Swedish national at Abu Dhabi, which he considers to be the latter’s ‘home’.

“I mean, so I put all my skills and all my uh concentration, focus to be better than ever physically, mentally. technically. You know all parts together to help me perform better than ever. So I know is uh over there in Abu Dhabi. [It] would be a kind of his house but I don’t care. okay? I’m going there to take over,” Costa told MMA Junkie.

Costa was scheduled to fight Makhachev last week at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City, but was pulled from the card when it was decided he would face Chimaev. After a two-fight losing streak, the Brazilian defeated the former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold in his last UFC appearance in 2022. Chimaev defeated Kevin Holland at UFC 279 last year. The undefeated fighter has finished five out of his six opponents in the UFC except Gilbert Burns, who took him to the judges’ scorecard.

Fans are eager to see Chimaev in the ring. Dana White recently had recently told TNT Sports that the middleweight fighter is the one fans ask about the most, after Conor McGregor. And with Costa’s determination to make ‘Borz’ suffer, and Chimaev’s declaration that he would make Costa cry in the cage, it is shaping up to be one electrifying fight.
