Heading into UFC Vegas 110, the buzz around the event was noticeably lower than usual. However, much like an unexpected storm, the card made plenty of noise once it arrived, though not for the right reasons. Between eye poke and the now-infamous fight-fixing allegations that have reportedly drawn federal attention, the event cast a shadow over the promotion’s image.

That said, what has passed cannot be changed. UFC Vegas 110 is officially in the books after 12 bouts filled with chaos and controversy. Even so, while the rankings didn’t see major shifts, the featherweight division experienced the most movement, with Steve Garcia breaking into the top 10 after an impressive performance in the headliner. At the same time, reigning women’s bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison now finds a new potential challenger emerging on the horizon.

New threat emerges for Kayla Harrison amid Jean Silva’s fall

After UFC Vegas 110, all the headlines were about the controversial featherweight fighter of the night, Isaac Dulgarian. Critics called his performance “amateur,” as a betting scandal overshadowed his fight. Reports indicated that, despite being a heavy favorite, Dulgarian’s betting line shifted unusually in favor of his opponent leading up to the fight. As a result, the situation is currently under investigation. Meanwhile, in the featherweight division, the landscape remains mostly stable, as reported on X by renowned journalist John Morgan, though there were notable changes.

Steve Garcia, riding a seven-fight win streak, broke into the top 10 with his latest victory over David Onama, climbing four spots. Garcia’s rise caused Brian Ortega (9), Josh Emmett (10), Jean Silva (11), and Patricio Freire (12) to each drop one position, while Dan Ige moved up to No. 13. Over in the women’s bantamweight division, Norma Dumont advanced to No. 3, replacing Ketlen Vieira, who now sits at No. 4. With this move, Dumont positions herself as a potential challenger to division queen Kayla Harrison, who is preparing for a comeback.

Speaking yesterday on Jorge Masvidal’s Death Row MMA, Harrison said, “It’s a fight that we all want to see happen, and it’s going to happen sooner rather than later… My perfect world, I fight soon, and then I fight again at the White House.” It will be intriguing to see if the UFC White House event offers Norma Dumont a chance to stake her claim for a title shot. Still, that scenario seems unlikely, as Kayla Harrison and UFC matchmakers already have her next two opponents lined up.

Who’s lined up for Kayla Harrison’s upcoming fight?

Talk of a Kayla Harrison vs. Amanda Nunes superfight picked up steam earlier this year. Nunes retired in 2023 after defending her bantamweight title against Irene Aldana, but during Hall of Fame induction week, she admitted she missed competing and might return, a revelation that thrust the women’s bantamweight division back into the spotlight. In June, the promotion hinted at her comeback, and Nunes’s coach later said, “in the lab cooking now… hoping for December.”

As Kayla Harrison’s upcoming fight looms on the “horizon”, most prominently against Amanda Nunes, she is targeting the winner of the upcoming UFC 322 women’s flyweight title fight for the UFC White House show. While speaking with Jorge Masvidal, Harrison said she still wants a spot on that card and stressed that, as the promotion’s only American champion, she wants a marquee fight.

So if Nunes doesn’t appear on the White House card, who does Harrison plan to face? “I’m not done, I’m gonna whoop her a real quick. And then in my perfect world, like either Valentina beats Weili, and then we do like a… USA vs. Russia like [fight],” Harrison said. Valentina Shevchenko will defend her flyweight title against Zhang Weili at UFC 322; if Shevchenko wins, Harrison hopes Shevchenko will move up to bantamweight to challenge her, the same jump Weili is making for this fight.

With the UFC White House still reportedly in the logistics phase, nothing has been finalized. Harrison’s position deep in the women’s bantamweight division raises plenty of questions. Who do you see as her next biggest threat? Share your thoughts below.
