‘Greatest Of All Time’ is always a subject for debate in the MMA universe. Although many names fill this bracket, two of the most commonly included entities are former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Both the fighters have had their own paths to the pinnacle and different legacies. However, they are still often compared with each other for the G.O.A.T tag.

Recently, the former light heavyweight king himself did the same. ‘Bones’ took to his official Twitter account and posted a collage picture of him & Nurmagomedov. The picture had both Nurmagomedov’s UFC record of 13-0 and the number of Jones’ UFC title fights, i.e. 14.
‘Bones’ further explained in the caption that one of his friends sent him this and also uploaded a mic drop statement. “One of my friends text me this, I just figured I would throw it up on my Twitter. Nothing else to say,” Jones wrote.
However, the former champion’s statement didn’t sit well with the fans. Some agreed with him to a point, while others lashed out at the American combatant for such comparison.
Here are some of the reactions from the fight fans:

Jones has lost many times. Getting caught with PEDs is about the same as losing 4 fights

How many times did he get caught cheating or beating women?

To have the arrests and failed drug test and still have that record is also impressive

I don’t necessarily disagree, but I will say what makes Khabib so impressive is that we still don’t know if he even bleeds his own blood. Never rocked, maybe never have even lost a round.

It is a sign of insecurity to have to make an argument for your own greatness.

Was it too early for Khabib Nurmagomedov to retire from the sport?
‘The Eagle’ is one of the most ferocious fighters in the history of MMA who dominated the killer lightweight division during his time. He had three title defenses under his name and lost only two rounds of his 13 total UFC fights.
These numbers are surely a testimonial of his dominance. Unfortunately, the Dagestani fighter retired in 2020 after defending his belt for the third consecutive time in the UFC. ‘The Eagle’ sure retired from the sport in his prime, with an impeccable record of 29-0 under his belt.
However, he had his reason. Nurmagomedov lost his father a few months before his last bout. His father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov coached him in MMA since his childhood years. He was a great role model in the former champion’s life, someone who he looked up to for all his fighting years, someone who shaped him into a fearless warrior.

Their relationship witnessed by fans highlighted the value a father-like figure is in an individual’s life. Therefore, after his father’s death, ‘The Eagle’ was sure he wouldn’t enter the cage without Abdulmanap next to him. He promised his mother the same.

Thereafter, ‘The Eagle’ had many lucrative offers that could have tempted him to come back to fighting. However, he refused them all. Yes, Khabib Nurmagomedov retired early. But ‘The Eagle,’ was loved by his fans for more than just his fighting prowess and undefeated championship reign. His fans loved him for achieving greatness and staying true to his values despite all the obstacles, temptations, and challenges thrown at him.
