Conor McGregor updates fans about recovery and return

McGregor had been invited to watch Francis Ngannou vs Tyson Fury in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The interview happened before Fury clinched his controversial split-decision victory. As McGregor analyzed Ngannou’s odds, he also spoke up about his own career.

He started off by telling the reporter how Ngannou had a tall task ahead of him. Counting down Fury’s strong points, the Irishman slowly walked everyone into the question everyone was asking him. When will he return to the cage? Here’s what he said.

“I’m in a great place, my body’s fully healed,’ said McGregor. “And hopefully April, let’s say April. So I’m happy, I would have loved in December, I would have loved early, I would have dialed in earlier but I wanna be honest . . . April’s a lovely run up for me.”

His confirmation further strengthens the idea of the six-month testing process being underway. Around April, fans will get to see UFC 300. Perhaps this will be when McGregor finally gets down to business to fight his current nemesis, Michael Chandler.

Before McGregor ever flew to Riyadh, he left a voice note on Twitter in true ‘Notorious’ fashion. After being invited to the bout, the Irishman noted that the fight was going to be highly “interesting.” All because Fury brought in experience and Ngannou brought in sheer power. Here’s what he said.

“. . .Francis has big power, with a striker’s mentality if it gets a bit tougher for him in the later rounds. So with power, with that, anything can happen.”

McGregor was correct about the unpredictability of the match. In fact, he was more correct than he would have liked to be. The match ended with a split-decision win for Fury even though Ngannou’s “big power” was on display throughout the match. This left many people upset with the results, including MMA luminaries.
