Two-time NCAA Division I heavyweight champion Gable Steveson has quickly become one of combat sports’ most talked-about prospects. The 25-year-old has explored multiple athletic avenues, testing his star power in WWE and even getting a look from the NFL. But it appears MMA is where he’s finally planting his flag. Steveson made a strong impression in his professional MMA debut at Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) in September.

He stopped Branden Peterson via first-round TKO in just 1:38 at LFA 217. A little over a month later, he returned to action as the headliner of DBX 4 under hybrid rules, knocking out Billy Swanson in a blistering 15 seconds. When is Gable Steveson fighting?
Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis confirmed that Gable Steveson will compete for his promotion on November 23 at the Isleta Resort and Casino in Albuquerque, N.M. “Done deal,” Pettis wrote on X. “My man Gable Steveson will make his second MMA appearance next week on APFC.” While Steveson’s opponent has yet to be announced, APFC 21 is officially slated to host his return to the cage.

This announcement follows UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard’s presence at Steveson’s fight against Swanson at DBX 4. This sighting, of course, fueled speculation about Steveson potentially joining the world’s biggest MMA promotion.

Dana White is interested in Steveson
Dana White has made it clear that Gable Steveson has the full attention of the top UFC brass. Even though Steveson is just 1-0 in MMA for now, the Olympic gold medalist’s elite wrestling background and rapid progression have put him firmly on White’s radar. “When you have somebody that’s a physical freak, an incredible athlete, and a guy who has competed at the highest level, and then they start transitioning into a combat sport like this, it’s very interesting,” White said.
“We’re definitely keeping our eyes on him, and we’ll see how this plays out.” White also sees shades of Brock Lesnar in Steveson’s path, noting, “Brock Lesnar came over here from the WWE… Now, [you’ve] got a guy like this with his wrestling background, who’s actually working his way up in the smaller leagues.” With fast finishes and guidance from Jon Jones, Steveson is exactly the type of prospect White wants to watch closely.
Having said that, it appears that as Gable Seveson appears for his second MMA fight, the UFC top brass will be watching him closely. But how many fights do you think it will take for the 25-year-old to win before UFC makes its move? And do you think UFC should sign him?
