UFC strawweight star Iasmin Lucindo is a clear case of being better than your record. While the Brazilian dynamo has an overall record of 17-6, she is one of the hottest prospects in the 115-pound division. Before coming to the Dana White-led UFC, Lucindo was already a champion many times over. The 23-year-old is a former champion in not one, not two, but three different promotions (Action Fight, Punch Fight, and Samurai Fight House).

And most of her losses came early in her pro career, which is quite understandable since Lucindo made her pro-MMA debut when she was 14! With such a remarkable journey already behind her, fans are now wondering about the person behind the fighter, including her relationship status. So, without further ado, let’s find out!

Does Iasmin Lucindo have a husband/boyfriend? Her relationship status

Iasmin Lucindo is currently engaged to Dr. Katia Morais, a dentist. The rising UFC strawweight mentioned her fiancée in her post-fight statement following a critical win over veteran Karolina Kowalkiewicz, adding she was grateful to have both her family and girlfriend present.

While there was no public announcement, in May 2024, the couple uploaded a photo of themselves holding hands, both wearing rings on their ring fingers, hinting at an engagement. While neither has publicly confirmed the details, Lucindo and Morais’ relationship has surely gone forward significantly.

But despite the very public hint about her engagement, Lucindo has kept most elements of her relationship private. She hasn’t said how long they’ve been dating or how they met, preferring to focus on her fighting career while keeping her personal life out of the public eye. As for Dr. Katia Morais, she, too, shares little about her personal life on social media or other public platforms.

Iasmin Lucindo’s early life and background

Iasmin Lucindo grew up in Genibau, a favela in Fortaleza, Brazil, where domestic violence was a part of everyday life for her. At the age of 13, she began training in kickboxing, partly because she enjoyed sports, but largely because she needed to defend herself and her loved ones. “I’ve witnessed physical assaults to my mother and aunts… I told myself I never wanted that for my life,” she said in an interview.

Her decision to fight was more than just emotional; it was vital. The women in her family, particularly her mother, have long been victims of domestic abuse. “I saw that many men are cowards and want to try to take advantage [of women],” she stated. “We never forget the things we see as kids.”

Her mother supported her decision, knowing that martial arts provided both safety and a possible way out of hardship. Lucindo was 4-0 in her first year of training and demanded a pro fight by 14. She defeated an opponent twice her age via third-round TKO. That win signaled the start of a serious career.

After impressing a coach in 2019, she joined a stronger team and trained alongside UFC fighters such as Virna Jandiroba. The young fighter hasn’t looked back since. She racked up major wins, including a decision over UFC veteran Sarah Frota, and is considered one of the UFC’s brightest rising stars. Now, she has a massive challenge ahead as she goes one-on-one against Angela Hill at UFC Vegas 109 in a women’s strawweight bout. Will she be able to prove her mettle and get another major win? Let us know in the comments.
