UFC middleweight Kevin Holland sat down with Helen Yee and talked about his plans inside the cage for the upcoming year. ‘The Trailblazer’ also shared his candid views on one particular surging prospect who could become a champion in 2022. Swedish-Russian fighter Khamzat Chimaev has taken over the headlines as of late, and Holland has noticed his rise in the UFC.

‘Borz’ was the breakout fighter of 2020 and he has maintained his hype in 2021 with a demolition victory over China’s Li Jingliang. Chimaev pulverized the ‘Leech’ and showed the world that he’s ready for a top-ranked contender. Kevin Holland has recognized the danger Chimaev poses, and he lauded him as a future champion of the welterweight champion.

“I think he’s big for welterweight. He’s going to give everyone problems. The way he went through Jingliang, man that was crazy. If you doubted him before that, it’s kind of hard to doubt him after that. I think he’s doing pretty good.”

Khamzat Chimaev: How high is his ceiling?

Borz’ has put forth record-setting performances after merely being hit with one significant strike in four UFC outings so far. Such a feat is unheard of in modern MMA and it’s becoming clear that perhaps no one can stop him. As Holland mention, he’s massive for the weight class, and even ranked fighter like ‘The Leech’ appear like amateurs in the cage.

Khamzat Chimaev is now linked with number two ranked Gilbert Burns in what could be a title eliminator match-up. There’s no other scrap that could propel him to the top, much like a win over ‘Durinho’. However, that will be a tough test given Burns’ prowess on the canvas with his world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

If Chimaev is able to dismantle Burns with ease as he’s done with his other opponent, the sky is the limit. He will certainly be fast-tracked towards a title shot and could have a showdown with Kamaru Usman in 2022 for UFC gold.
