Javier Mendez, who now coaches Islam Makhachev, was Nurmagomedov’s coach. Before that, the Russian fighter trained in the hills of Dagestan under his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

It seems like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Khamzat Chimaev never trained together. While ‘Borz’ trained mainly in Sweden and Thailand, ‘The Eagle’ was in the United States. Further, the 29-year-old was never a part of Nurmagomedov’s camp. Although the two fighters hail from the same region, they do not have a substantial connection.
