Mateusz Gamrot was born in Bielsko-Biala. At an early age, the Polish star found exposure to freestyle wrestling. Around the time he would have to go to middle school, Gamrot ended up going to a boarding school in Milicz, a town in the western-central region of Poland. While he was attending school, his focus on wrestling was still as sharp as ever. By the age of 20, he had already seriously pursued wrestling and had won medals in junior and youth championships as a part of the national team. He also moved to Poznań for good, a hub of culture and business in Poland. So how did he make the transition from wrestling in Poland to being a UFC PPV star?

The European fighter was once a double division champ of a promotion called Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki. Roughly translated, it means Mixed Martial Arts Confrontation. And so the journey began. After initial success, he moved on to other MMA promotions like Cage Warriors, before making a move to the UFC.

Now we already know his nationality but not much has been revealed about his family background and ethnicity in detail. However, what we do know is that he has come close to fighting for the lightweight belt for the UFC just like he fought and won for KSW once.

Mateusz Gamrot was the backup fighter for the UFC 294 bout that came apart for a moment when Charles Oliveira pulled out. Gamrot was to weigh in as a replacement in case Islam Makhachev and ‘Do Bronx’ weren’t able to make it and the title could have been his.

Unfortunately for him, the UFC had different plans. Islam Makhachev had already gone up against Alexander Volkanovski once and a rematch could have excited fans to a great extent and since ‘The Great’ was more than willing, the promotion went with that fight instead.
