Gordon Ryan is out of competition till 2024

Gordon Ryan, set for two upcoming grappling events, has pulled out due to a rib injury sustained during training. The BJJ star was a late replacement for the UFC Fight Pass Invitational on December 9, taking Georges St-Pierre’s spot after an injury forced him out. WNO 21 and UFC Fight Pass Invitational 5 were anticipated as Ryan’s return to action, but now, he finds himself sidelined again.

WNO confirmed Ryan’s withdrawal, while he explained on Instagram, “A few days ago in training, I badly popped my rib during a misdirectional escape.” Despite attempts to train through it, he and his team decided rescheduling was the best move.

Ryan has faced criticism for inactivity in 2023. Despite a match at WNO 20, he’ll end the year with limited activity. Critics have also noted the missed opportunities with Barbosa and Fowler, opponents better than his previous matches. As the decorated grappler navigates this period of inactivity, the community eagerly awaits his return to the competitive stage in the coming year.
