More about Usman Nurmagomedov’s family and background

As mentioned above, Usman Nurmagomedov was born in Dagestan and combat sports greatness runs in the veins of his family. Alongside his older brother Umar and under the tutelage of his legendary uncle Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, Usman grew up in an environment where wrestling mats were playgrounds and hard training was a daily ritual.

At just eight years old, Usman began his journey in freestyle wrestling, a sport as natural to Dagestanis as breathing. When Umar shifted his focus to Thai boxing, Usman followed suit, showcasing the same adaptability that would later define his MMA career.

The move to Makhachkala marked a pivotal chapter in Usman’s life. Training under Abdulmanap at the Eagles MMA camp, he absorbed the intricacies of sambo and shared the mats with future MMA stars like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev.

Facing Imran Abdiev at the Moscow Pankration Federation promotion, Usman secured a first-round armbar victory, setting the tone for an undefeated career. Each win since then has been a testament to his technical mastery and unyielding spirit.

Now, on January 25 in the main event of PFL: Road to Dubai – Champions Series, Usman Nuramgomedov will defend his title against Paul Hughes. Perhaps his decision to maintain privacy fuels his remarkable success, in keeping distractions at bay. Or maybe it’s a reflection of Dagestani values, where humility and respect often overshadow fame. So, will he be able to continue his undefeated streak against Hughes?
