Islam Makhachev Calls Israel Adesanya a “Bad Example” for Alexander Volkanovski

Islam Makhachev vs Alexander Volkanovski is just around the corner. The lightweight champ faces the featherweight champ for the lightweight title in the main event of UFC 284. Makhachev recently made a bold statement about the lack of promotion of his upcoming fight. According to him, Dana White was not promoting his matchup with the featherweight champ enough, and also said that he had just seen Alexander Volkanovski once.

However, he did get to see his next opponent (at least virtually) when the two shared screens in Daniel Cormier’s very own DC and RC podcast. Both fighters talked about their training and prep for the fight, but Makhachev had some interesting things to say about Volkanovski’s jump to the lightweight division.

Volkanovski is following a bad example, according to Islam Makhachev

Makhachev compared the featherweight champ’s weight jump with the latter’s teammate and the former middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya. “His teammate Adesanya jumped to other weight, showed him bad example, but he don’t listen,” said Makhachev.

“155 (lbs), this is my jungle, he jump to my jungle”, the lightweight champ added. With his sharp words, it is pretty clear that Islam Makhachev believes Volkanvoski’s jump to the lightweight division will be advantageous for the Dagestani fighter.

In 2021, Israel Adesanya was undefeated in his professional MMA career and had a record of 20–0. Enjoying his dominance in the middleweight division, he decided to move to the light heavyweight division. He faced Jan Błachowicz for the lightweight title. While the match-up was close, Jan Błachowicz managed to hand ‘The Last Stylebender’ his first UFC loss.

According to Makhachev, Volkanovski is following the “bad example” of Adesanya and is going to meet a similar fate.
