The UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, shocked the world when he finished Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294. The first fight between the two left people questioning the decision as the fight was too close to call. However, Makhachev’s performance in the second fight, finishing Volkanovski, made a massive splash in the P4P rankings.

After the win, Makhachev got pushed to the top of the rankings. Dethroning the heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who is considered by many as the best fighter to ever grace the Octagon. The change in the P4P rankings led to a debate for many. And the latest name on the list of questioners is none other than UFC lightweight Bobby Green.

In an interview with ‘The Schmo’, Bobby Green revealed that he still considered Jon Jon to be the No.1 ranked P4P fighter. In the interview, Green stated, “No I think that’s Jon Jones. You got to always give it to Jon Jones”. He then added his reason, saying, “Jon Jones has put his body at work and nobody can do what that guy’s done”.

Bobby Green further added, “Until Islam is starting to fight in other divisions and show that he’s taking on the different caliber like that, then he could be the pound for pound.” Green then went on to put Alexander Volkanovski higher than Makhachev, stating, “I still would say that Volk would be number two and then he’d be number three”.

He goes on to elaborate on his statement, saying, “I still put Volk as number two, that guy is beating everybody, fighting everybody, signing up, that’s the true pound for pound. I would say, Jon Jones, Volk then maybe Islam”

The P4P No. 1, Islam Makhachev, certainly has some naysayers as of now. But maybe that would change if he beats the lion of the lightweight division, Charles Olivera, in their rematch.
