Islam Makhachev’s 3-Word Tweet Makes a Huge Statement on UFC Retirement

There were a lot of rumors that speculated the retirement of Islam Makhachev from the UFC. People thought that he would follow suit just like his mentor and former stablemate, Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, Makhachev’s recent tweet has shut down any rumors of retirement.
Islam Makhachev has been fighting under the UFC banner since 2014. He finally got hold of the UFC’s top prize at UFC 280. Makhachev defeated Charles Oliveira via submission to win the lightweight title. Moreover, the Dagestan native had his first successful title defense against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 285.
There were a lot of rumors surrounding Makhachev’s retirement from the UFC after he won the championship belt. His mother is not a fan of MMA fights. She never watched any of Makhachev’s fights. After his win at UFC 280, he went back to his home of Dagestan, where he was greeted by many people.

However, Makhachev’s mother asked him to wrap up his MMA career since he won the championship. However, the lightweight told his mother that he wanted to defend the title as Nurmagomedov did. Moreover, his recent tweet has everyone in splits regarding his retirement status.

The current UFC lightweight champion posted a message on Twitter, busting any rumors that speculate about his retirement. He wrote: “who is next?” He is clearly looking for a credible contender and a good fight.

Makhachev is seeking his next opponent. However, there has been no news regarding his next fight as of now. Moreover, there are talks of a rematch between Alexander Volkanovski and the Dagestan native after a close fight at UFC 284. It looks like Makhachev will not be following in his mentor’s footsteps after all. Khabib Nurmagomedov found himself in a predicament after the death of his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. But Makhachev has shown no signs of retiring from the sport of MMA. He is apparently looking for a good fight.
Islam Makhachev had stated that he was not interested in retiring anytime soon. Fans believe that there are many fighters that Makhachev is yet to face, one of them being Beneil Dariush. He is currently one of the most talked-about fighters on the UFC roster. Moreover, MMA fans are still interested in knowing what’s next.
