Israel Adesanya Reveals Deep Meaning Behind His Newly Inked Neck Tattoo

Anyone who looks at the former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, would understand his love for tattoos. The New Zealand fighter already had many tattoos on his body, but recently he added some more. The most notable recent tattoo of Adesanya is the huge neck tattoo. Many wondered what he meant by the tattoo, because Adesanya’s tattoos always have a story to tell. From his already existing tattoos, fans could tell how much he loves anime and his own heritage. However, guessing the meaning of the new neck tattoo gave everyone a very tough time.

 ‘The Stylebender’ himself took to Instagram and asked his followers to guess the meaning of his new tattoo. For the followers, it was difficult to find what he actually meant with the tattoo. Nevertheless, at first look, anyone would say it’s an eagle. Furthermore, it looked like an eagle that is styled to look like both an ancient Egyptian and a traditional American. Finally, in his most recent post, Adesanya decided to explain the meaning of his neck tattoo.

Israel Adesanya calls his neck tattoo ‘montu’

He posted a video of him getting tattooed both on his face and neck. In the video, he revealed the reason behind why he inked the eagle. Stylebender wrote, “When the storm comes, all animals hide, and the hawk flies over it and looks into its eye. Montu, taker of all comers”. The UFC champion makes it clear that he tattooed the hawk. However, according to him, the hawk symbolizes ‘Montu’.

By calling his tattoo Montu, he made it clear that his tattoo is quite complex in terms of its deeper meaning. According to the ancient Egyptian religion, Montu is a falcon-god. The god of war, who is also an embodiment of the conquering vitality of the pharaoh, The rulers in Egypt are called pharaohs. The falcon-god is worshiped mainly in Upper Egypt and in the district of Thebes. In Egyptian art, Montu was depicted as the falcon-headed man.

The Significance of Adesanya’s tattoos

Adesanya had always made sure that his tattoos conveyed some in-depth meaning. According to the Stylebender, his ‘broken native’ tattoo is to remind him of his roots and how far he has come in life. He inked the broken native tattoo when he was twenty-one years old.  Broken native is also the name of Adesanya’s childhood dance crew. The tattoo that Stylebender inked on the center of his chest proves his love for his native land.

The tattoo shows Africa’s map, and inside the map, a detailed outline of Lagos, Nigeria, is highlighted. The reason for the Lagos highlight is that Adesanya comes from Lagos, Nigeria; he was born there. It is the photo of Naruto and Avatar around his stomach that proves what a crazy anime fan he is!
