Israel Adesanya Says He Was Very Surprised with Marvin Vettori’s Performance Against Paulo Costa

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya uploaded his real-time reaction to Paulo Costa vs Marvin Vettori that went down in Vegas. The bout between two middleweight contenders had Adesanya’s attention right from the get-go and he commented on their five-round war. In the end, Marvin Vettori did enough to secure the victory over a highly explosive opponent in Paulo Costa.

When reviewing the bout, Adesanya mentioned a couple of key takeaways about the game plan of both men. Not to mention, he specifically remarked at the fact that Vettori didn’t opt for a takedown-heavy game plan against Costa. The Brazilian possess landed some heavy leg strikes throughout the right and they didn’t go unnoticed by ‘The Last Stylebender’.

“I just didn’t think Vettori was going to stand and strike with him which was surprising. I said he should try to wrestle. I felt like he would have had better success especially with Costa coming in heavy. He [Vettori] don’t listen.”

“What surprised me the most about Costa with the fighting? He did right. The inside leg kicks i wish he did that more because that was working.”

Despite suffering a defeat on Saturday night and entering a two-fight skid, Paulo Costa displayed some impressive techniques. He landed a blast double takedown and also appeared sharp throughout the contest. He will most likely take his upgraded skill set and compete and compete at light heavyweight moving forward.

UFC President Dana White made it abundantly clear after the fight that Paulo Costa had to get his weight right. There are plenty of top-tier matches for Costa at 205-pounds and that is certainly good news for the fans.

On the other hand, Marvin Vettori has now managed to get back to the win column and showed that he’s as elite as they come. ‘The Italian Dream’ impressed everyone with his chin and it seems like he’s virtually impossible to stop in the cage. He will have to notch a couple more wins under his belt before making his way up the ladder, back to a title shot.
