Israel Adesanya was in action just last week. The UFC middleweight champion took on Robert Whittaker at UFC 271 in a much-anticipated rematch. The first fight between the two was a demolition job by Adesanya, and he took the title. However, the former champion put up a great fight in the rematch, and many believed he won it. Recently, Dan Hooker had his say on it.
Whittaker came into the fight on the back of a three-fight winning streak and looked like a better fighter. He had a patient approach to the fight and even landed some clean strikes and takedowns. However, ‘The Last Stylebender’ eventually won the fight via a unanimous decision. Many people though believed that ‘The Reaper‘ did enough and won the fight.

Adesanya‘s long-time teammate weighed in on it and said, “It’s just hard, you know. After such a dominant first fight, you know, Israel pretty much having the fight finished after the first round and then doing the same in the second round. Then that becomes people’s bar for measuring. They expect that, that’s why they always say it is dangerous to have a rematch with someone.”
“You never want to take a rematch unless you feel like you can do better than the first time. Israel’s performance in the last fight is pretty hard to beat. That was pretty, um, about as dominant as a fight gets. So, that becomes people’s measuring stick for the second fight.”
“So if that is the measuring stick for the second fight, then Rob did incredible. Rob did 100 times better than he did first fight.”

“But all over, once you score the fight. It was pretty clear that Israel had control.”
Dan Hooker will return to action soon
Dan Hooker’s teammate recently returned to action and soon ‘The Hangman‘ will get in the octagon as well. Hooker will make a return to the featherweight division after almost five years at UFC Fight Night 204.
The Kiwi will take on the number 7 ranked Arnold Allen. ‘Almighty’ looks unstoppable right now and is on an eight-fight win streak in the UFC. Hooker is one of the biggest names in the UFC and a win over him will get Allen to a title shot.

Dan Hooker is on a difficult run right now. He is 1-3 in his last four fights right now. However, his losses have come at the hands of the absolute best in the lightweight division. He would hope that a move to featherweight will get him back to winning ways.
