In an interview she gave in 2015, Dee Devlin recounted her experience of watching Conor McGregor’s meteoric rise. The couple was in Boston for a UFC Fight Night, where McGregor fought Dennis Siver. Devlin was answering questions from the media at Conor McGregor’s open workout.

The interviewer asked Devlin about the pressures of being a fighter’s partner. He pointed out that McGregor‘s popularity was growing. Hence, he was getting more exposure. This also meant that the pressure on him grew with each fight, especially with title fight implications hanging in the balance. The interviewer asked if Devlin’s emotional investment was intensifying as the process went forward.

Devlin said, “I find I’m more nervous now – the first time I went to see Conor fight ever, there was like 50 people in a room, and I thought ‘There’s no way you can be more nervous than this’ but each time it’s just getting that more and more… and I, definitely as someone watching someone you care about getting in and… it definitely gets me in the gut now, I have to say.”

Devlin also said that she gets incredibly worried once McGregor leaves the fighter’s hotel. However, she added that once she sees him in the arena, his confidence calms her nerves.

She continued, “Now, coming up to it (fight day) I’m not so bad. These couple of days there’s so much going on and that keeps us busy. But fight day is definitely a day where my stomach is not in the best place. I can’t eat. I can’t take anything. I’m literally like a ball of nerves… But as soon as he gets in (ring/cage) and I see him again… I know he has it in the bag.”
