Famed American actress Halle Berry sat down with MMA Junkie to talk about her film ‘Bruised’ which recently hit the screen. The film sees Berry in the capacity of a star and also serves as her directorial debut. The movie saw a theatrical release on November 17, 2021, followed by a Netflix streaming deal that began on November 24th.

The movie has received a lot of promotion in the circles of MMA fans as it is a film centered around a failed MMA fighter. Moreover, undisputed flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko also has a role in the films, and fans are invested. In fact, Dana White had Halle Berry up on the podium doing the face-off for Rose Namajunas vs Zhang Weili 2 at UFC 268 to help promote the movie.

Halle Berry details her experiences

Halle Berry talked about her role in making and starring in the movie and it’s clear she is passionate about the project. She explained how the ‘underdog’ story was extremely appealing to her and was the genesis behind the script. Not to mention, her genuine interest in combat sports would have certainly helped her get into the role.

“I love this genre. The fight game and this genre has always been winning for me. It’s a genre I’ve loved. I love this idea of fighting for the underdog, watching someone find redemption that’s so relatable to all people.”

“When I read this script… I still connected to the bones of this story. I connected to the brokenness of all the characters, of all of them one together, trying to fight to better themselves and find forgiveness.”

‘I just couldn’t let it go’- Halle Berry

Moreover, Halle Berry revealed that she has been a fan of the sweet science of boxing ever since a young age. This comes as no surprise as the action star has always been quite good with her hands.

“It’s something that once I read it, I just couldn’t let it go. I couldn’t let it go. So right away I started reimagining ‘Oh, how could this work for someone like me’…. I had a big love of MMA when the scrip came to me. I was a huge fan of the sport. I was a boxing fan since I was a little girl, it just ignited me on all levels.”

The MMA community is definitely excited to see how the movie shapes up with such a star-studded cast. Not to mention, fans of ‘The Bullet’ are most certainly in for a treat.
