Conor McGregor had been eyeing a comeback. He even revealed he wanted to fight for the welterweight title and, hence, challenged Kamaru Usman. As ‘The Notorious’ has already been the featherweight and lightweight UFC champion, he aspired to dominate another division and become the company’s first three-division title holder.

The welterweight champion spoke about the Irish fighter in a recent episode of ‘I AM ATHLETE’ on YouTube.

Speaking about a potential fight with McGregor, Usman said, “Conor don’t want this work, Conor is doing, see that’s another thing, too strategic. … He’s very strategic to where he is just throwing these out because he knows as soon as I throw it out, ten of these people will write about it.”

“And then when they come to him and say ‘yo, all right, here’s the contract for the fight’, he don’t even return phone calls.”

“You know, I don’t tweet at him before. I don’t tweet at Conor before I said ‘all right’ because I’m looking for somebody to fight. Ah, you want to fight, you got the fight.”

When Usman was asked if he thought ‘The Notorious‘ was done with MMA, he said, “No, he’s not done because he needs fighting.”

Further in the episode, Kamaru Usman mentioned that Conor McGregor might not be able to hold a title.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ said, “He’s not necessarily done, but he’s done as a champion, and this is my perspective. Because when I fight guys, I study their hearts. And I watch fights, I watch their heart and for me, he’s done.”

“He’s done because I don’t know whether it’s, the goal was to get the money. I don’t know if that what it was because he, you know, there’s a story about him… he was broke and you know. For me, it seemed like it was about not being broke.”

While McGregor’s current UFC career is bumpy, he is working with actor Jake Gyllenhaal and will soon make his acting debut with ‘Road House’. His upcoming appearance on the big screen has left his combat fans excited.

McGregor was last seen battling with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. After a nasty leg break, the fighter underwent surgery and subsequent rest. He also recently sparked retirement rumors. However, the fighter regularly shares updates of his training.
