UFC is definitely a place where some of the toughest people on the planet hang out with each other. And our fluffy, sweet bear named Daniel Cormier is also one such individual. Although the San Jose native now works as an analyst and seems almost harmless, the former double champ was known to ragdoll nearly everyone in his prime, except perhaps Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. However, sometimes the former Olympian becomes human just like us and makes catastrophic mistakes.

Accidents can happen anywhere and to anyone, even to a highly accomplished martial artist like ‘DC’, who used to be a nightmare for other fighters. Cormier is a family man who loves spending time with his loved ones. And in one such moment, when he was enjoying some quality time with them, the former two-division champ revealed an incident in which a knife caught him off guard and almost sent him to heaven.

Apparently, the former Olympian had a favorite knife that he took everywhere. But that same knife nearly kil–d him when he was trying to cut open an air-sealed mattress that he had put together for his children. Out of nowhere, the mattress suddenly exploded, and the knife went straight into his chest, badly wounding him.

During the UFC 315 weigh-in show, ‘The Good Guy’ said, “I had a new knife,” after which fellow UFC commentator Laura Sanko asked, “Cooking Knife?” Cormier replied, It got like a leather case, I put it on my hip.. I do everything with it. I’m in my house, and I’m putting together my kid’s queen-size bed. So I get one of those sealed mattresses, and I start to cut it open. I cut the mattress too deep, to the bottom—it explodes up, the knife hits me in the chest! It would have ki—d me if the knife’s edge had hit me. I was shaking.”

UFC fighters getting involved in some gruesome accidents is something that goes around. DC’s incident, where he nearly gave himself an angel halo with a knife, was already concerning. But what happened to Bryce Mitchell was straight out of a Final Destination movie scene! For the unversed, the featherweight was once working on his house with a drill machine and ended up tangling his scrotum in it.

Coming back to the MMA legend, it’s a relief that he is alive, well, and still talking like he does at every event. He’s undeniably an integral part of this sport, and will continue to be, as long as he steers clear of life-threatening situations. That way, he can keep dropping some really solid takes, just like he did when he mentioned his three most underrated fighters in the UFC. Let’s see who they are!

Daniel Cormier names his top current underrated fighters in the UFC

The former UFC heavyweight champion can sometimes have takes on the sport that not everyone agrees with. However, he also drops some opinions that anyone involved in the game would appreciate. One of those takes came when he named his top-most underrated fighters currently on the roster.

During the UFC morning weigh-in show, Daniel Cormier, alongside Laura Sanko, veteran coach Dean Thomas, and several other guests, took part in games that sparked interesting conversations and fresh perspectives about various fighters. While most of the panel picked lesser-known names. DC’s list of five stood out from the rest.

It included two current champions: Alexandre Pantoja (Flyweight) and Dricus Du Plessis (Middleweight), who, according to him, don’t get the love they deserve from the MMA community. The remaining three names were just as interesting: Jack Della Maddalena, Reinier de Ridder, and Anthony Hernandez.

This list by Cormier can be considered amazing! Dricus has shown some serious brute strength in his recent fights, and even outclassed guys like Sean Strickland twice and Israel Adesanya. Pantoja is also a solid and underrated pick, as he’s become nearly unbeatable in the flyweight division. As for the last three names, ‘RDR’ and Anthony Hernandez are both coming off the biggest wins of their careers, while the Aussie is gearing up to bring the belt down under when he faces Belal Muhammad at UFC 315.

So, do you agree with Daniel Cormier’s amazing list? If you don’t, please share your top five most underrated fighters in the UFC by commenting below.
