Francis Ngannou vs. Ciryl Gane is going to be the main event at UFC 270. It is one of the most highly anticipated matchups and probably the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history.

Ngannou is one of the heaviest hitters in the world, be it boxing or MMA. ‘The Predator has earned all 16 of his career wins via stoppage.

However, Gane is not going to try and overpower Ngannou. In an interview, he said, “You know we’re coming into this fight with our own strengths. We’re not here to try and counter his strengths. We don’t want to try and be stronger than him. Till today, I’ve never seen anyone as powerful, as athletic, with such knockout power. I’ve never seen it. In terms of strength, he might be the most impressive guy in UFC’s history. I’m not gonna try and become stronger than him in 3 months. It wouldn’t make sense.”

While talking about Ngannou‘s power, he said he isn’t very technical but is the most powerful fighter in the world. He said, “Obviously, as soon as I sparred with him, I could feel what kind of fighter he is. He’s not particularly technical-oriented. And we could see it during the sparring because, when I was going technical, I could see that I was ahead.”

“And as soon as he was using his power, it was kind of ruining the flow. I very clearly felt his punching power. As I said, I’ve never seen anyone as powerful as him. Today, whether it is in boxing or MMA, I don’t see anyone more powerful.”

Ciryl Gane accepts his sparring clip with Francis Ngannou made him look good

When the fight between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane was announced, a clip of them sparring started making rounds. It showed both fighters going hard in training and, in a way, showing the interim champion getting the upper hand. Ngannou said that when he saw the clip; it made him laugh. According to him, the clip was about making him look better.

His opponent Gane agreed that there were sessions in which Ngannou had the upper hand. And the clip that came out made him look better.

He said, “It’s true that in that clip, I’m not going to lie. It was soft sparring and I could confidently develop my game. There were sessions where he had more the edge. One time it was me, one time it was him. To say that he was far ahead, no, it’s not necessarily true. But it’s true that this particular clip made me look good.”

Going into the fight, Gane believes that Ngannou will have flaws in his game. But his punching power is going to be a problem. So he’ll need to make sure he doesn’t get hit and apply his game plan.
