Jon Jones might just be one of the greatest Martial Artists to have ever done it. The fighter has taken down legends throughout his career without suffering a single loss. After spending years away from the UFC, Jones came back in 2023, hoping to fight the then UFC HW champ Francis Ngannou, but ended up with an easy win over Ciryl Gane, thereby becoming the HW champ.

It really seems that there is no one out there that can take down or stop Jon Jones. Alexander Gustafsson came closer than ever but even he failed – twice. Now, Jon Jones has said that he is looking to defend his title for the last time in the UFC before retiring. His supposedly last fight will be against Heavyweight legend Stipe Miocic.

Jon Jones walked away from the UFC back in 2020 with a clean record. He came back, 3 years later, as dominant as ever. He won his return match and became the HW champ effortlessly. Jones announced that he would be retiring after facing Miocic, but UFC legend Chael Sonnen seems to disagree.

In one of his latest podcast episodes, Sonnen shared his opinion of Jones’ retirement plan and clearly stated that he isn’t buying it.

Jon has manifested a number of things. Jon has set aside a number of times. Jon is known in his younger career – visualization and doing these very things where he comes out and talks about Stipe’s my last one. Before you know it, you gonna do that for a couple of weeks, you gonna do that for a month. All of a sudden, he’s your last one.”, stated Sonnen.

And even if your great plan is to pull back and say I’m gonna continue, you’re in a different spot. It’s a mistake and you should stop – and moreover, he kind of just did.”, added Sonnen, presenting a case that contradicts Jones’ retirement plans.

Chael Sonnen seems to be of the opinion that Jones saying that Miocic would be his last fight might be a way for him to hype the fight and get more ticket sales in. However, in his next statement, Sonnen justified his thought process with a valid reason.

He’s a prizefighter. He doesn’t have enough money yet”, remarked Sonnen, referring to the 3-year hiatus that Jones took from the UFC, before returning in 2023. “I don’t say that to tease him. He’s a guy that went without work for three years.”, stated Sonnen, in a matter-of-fact way.

Then, Sonnen proceeded to drop some major news that would excite all fight fans – especially Jon Jones fans.

He just told Tom that’s a good idea. Tom said I’m coming after you.”, said Sonnen, referring to Tom Aspinall calling out Jon Jones. Apparently, Aspinall has asked Jones to stick around for a little longer so he can have his dance with the undefeated champion – and it seems that Jon Jones has agreed.

Additionally, UFC President Dana White has entertained the idea of Aspinall vs. Jones and has said he is open to making that happen, thereby dropping a hint that Jones might not actually retire after his Miocic fight.
