Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones took to Twitter and launched an armed assault on his rival, Daniel Cormier. The two have had plenty to say about each other over the years, and it seems as though their rivalry hasn’t quelled. Daniel Cormier recently spoke to Damon Martin and shared his views on where Jon Jones ranks in the GOAT list.

The conversation surrounding MMA’s GOAT has been boiling over as of late, following Khabib Nurmagomedov’s shock retirement at UFC 254. Jon Jones is a perennial contender being mentioned to top the list of all-time best fighters. However, ‘DC’ isn’t quite sold on Jones’ legacy and believes that his USADA suspensions over the years eliminate him from the conversation.

Rather predictably, ‘Bones’ Jones didn’t take too kindly to Cormier’s recent remarks and made sure that fans knew how he felt on the matter. Jones was quick to disparage Cormier’s legacy in MMA and magnified the fact he retired off a loss. Chiefly, Daniel Cormier’s last two-fights in the UFC’s famed octagon were a pair of losses to Stipe Miocic.

While Cormier still remains a locked Hall of Famer and one of only four UFC fighters to hold two championships simultaneously, his legacy took a hit. Had he retired after his first heavyweight title defense, there’s a good chance he’d be high on the GOAT list. In saying that, Jon certainly went all out to quash any claims that DC was on his level.

Additionally, he took another shot at Cormier after a fan pointed out that he has accomplished a feat that Jon hasn’t- become a double champion. However, ‘Bones’ brought into question Daniel’s light heavyweight title reign that was sparked due to Jones’ suspension from the division.

All in all, the aforementioned verbal barbs being thrown are reminiscent of the old days, when Jones and Cormier were to fight each other. What’s more, it’s clear that nothing has changed in terms of the way they feel about the other. The fire of the rivalry continues to burn on over three years from their last meeting at UFC 214.
