Ciryl Gane is all set to face Derrick Lewis for the UFC interim heavyweight title at UFC 265. Following Gane’s dominating victory in his last fight, many believe that he deserves this interim title shot. However, there are some people who believe that by making this fight the UFC has wronged Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou wasn’t ready to fight Lewis in August but was available to face Lewis in September. Therefore, when the UFC announced an interim title fight between Gane and Lewis, many were surprised. During a recent interview, even Gane was asked if it surprised him that this opportunity came his way.

To this ‘Bon Gamin’ said, “A little bit yes because we knew normally it would be Francis against Derrick Lewis. But Francis wasn’t free for a fight in August so they chose me.”

Gane also talked about how he doesn’t feel bad for Ngannou but understands his situation. Gane said, “No, I can understand, but for me, it’s just an interim title, so the champion is still Francis. So if I was Francis, this would mean nothing to me.”

This whole situation in the UFC heavyweight division has been really complex since Ngannou became champion. The UFC first teased a potential super fight between Jon Jones and Ngannou to happen. Then as Jones and the UFC couldn’t reach an agreement, a rematch with Miocic was on the cards.

Ultimately, they decided that Ngannou would face Lewis in a title fight, however even that got canceled and they have now finally set a fight between Gane and Lewis for the interim title.
