UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko successfully defended her belt against Lauren Murphy at UFC 266. Shevchenko earned a finish in the fourth round of the contest. She remains undefeated in the flyweight division.

While Murphy did her best to trouble the champ, it was simply not enough to catch Shevchenko off-guard. The champion remains one of the finest fighters in the UFC and she is surely one of the greatest champions in the history of the promotion. Shevchenko told the media about the exact moment she knew she had broken Murphy at UFC 266.

“You know when it’s starting to break? It’s starting when their strategy for the fight doesn’t work. If they were like, Okay, I was thinking I can do that, and they started to realize it’s not happening, then I play my games. They wanted to play their games but it’s not happening. I just play my game, and this is when it starts, the breakage. So, it’s not before the fight, it’s during the fight. In the first seconds of the fight,” said Shevchenko.

Murphy, on the other hand, came into the contest riding a 5-fight winning streak. But she got it snapped after her loss to ‘Bullet’. Despite trying her best, she realized like every other contender that Shevchenko is indeed a step above the rest of the division.
