The Power Slap was something that Dana White was very excited about a few months ago. He had placed great expectations from the short-format sport he feels has the potential to be “the next big thing“. The Power Slap, however, has been facing a lot of criticism since its inception. Fans and experts have expressed their concerns about the safety issues around the participating athletes. There were apprehensions about the pay on offer for the athletes too. The UFC boss, however, remains defiant and has come out swinging against all allegations on his latest venture.

Talking to MMA Fighting, White had earlier said that Power Slap was a safe sport as it involved only two or three blows as compared to boxing where the athletes may take 400 blows in a sparring session. This argument, however, fell flat, as boxing and MMA fans looked completely unimpressed.

Fans unhappy with Dana White’s Power Slap

Fans have not been happy with the way the sport has been going on. The lack of defense tactics in the sport has been under fire from fans. Reacting to Dana White‘s argument, a fan commented, It’s not combat if you’re letting someone hit you.” Questioning the legitimacy of Power Slap as a combat sport.

Another fan commented, “Except in boxing and MMA you’re allowed to try to move out of the way of your opponents blows” reacting to White‘s comparison of Power Slap with boxing and MMA.

A fan who thought the 53-year-old’s argument was ridiculous said, “If MMA wasn’t allowed to defend themselves when being hit, no fights would go past 1 punch/kick. This argument is ridiculous.”

A combat sports fan said, “So stupid……. I love all combat sports ,from mma to sumo. You cannot call this a sport.”

Dana White defensive on attacks

The UFC boss has been parrying away all attacks on his new promotion. While he tried to establish that the promotion had no safety concerns with his arguments, he called media persons “goofballs” for questioning the Power Slap. He has also been heard saying that the criticism coming towards Power Slap gives him the “Déjà vu” from times when he started the UFC.

Dana White has also canceled all the criticism coming towards him, calling it “Selective Outrage“. The troubles for Power Slap, however, haven’t ended.

Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr. had written a strongly worded letter to Warner Bros. asking for “Immediate Removal” of the show. With fans and experts speaking against the promotion, Dana White will be looking for a way to turn things around magically before things go beyond repair.
