Jorge Masvidal recently announced that he was considering coming out of retirement. That led to speculations about him facing former rival Nate Diaz when he makes his comeback. However, UFC and MMA legend Chael Sonnen doesn’t seem to have a strong inclination to accept that the fight would take place anytime soon.

‘Gamebred’ hinting at a return to combat sports led many fans to play matchmakers for the former BMF champion. Some of the names they brought up for his comeback were Colby Covington and even Jake Paul. However, people started speculating that Jorge Masvidal might eventually come back and fight Nate Diaz for a second time. But that could be out of the question, according to Chael Sonnen. Let’s see what he had to say.

Chael Sonnen claims there’s nothing on the line for Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz to fight

A fight that involves big names like Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal requires the need for a story to be built. However, Chael Sonnen claims that there isn’t much time to build that story, given that they’re being rumored to fight in early 2024. Moreover, ‘The American Gangster’ also believes that Diaz and Masvidal may not be thinking about fighting each other, anyway. Sonnen said, “There’s not enough time to tell a story. It does not feel like unfinished business. It doesn’t feel like something they want to do.”

Furthermore, Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal fighting each other in the comeback serve no purpose, as per Chael Sonnen’s claim. There is no championship on the line, nor will the fight be about rankings. “There’s no belt, there’s no title, there’s no ranking. If it doesn’t feel that way, then it’s not [happening],” Sonnen added. Meanwhile, he also talked about the fight being rumored to take place in Las Vegas. Let’s have a look at that front.

No Diaz-Masvidal fight in Las Vegas?

Chael Sonnen turned his attention to the first time Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal fought each other back in 2019. The stage was set with the BMF title on the line. Even Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was there to crown the winner. However, it still did not live up to the expectations, according to Chael Sonnen. He further stated, “The first time they did [fight], they had everything… and it wasn’t enough.”

Meanwhile, he also addressed people speculating that the fight will take place in the UFC’s him city of Las Vegas. But ‘The American Gangster’ believes that the venue is out of the question since the fight capital of the world does not seem to announce a fight of such magnitude all of a sudden. “There’s a discussion that it’s also going to be in Las Vegas… the fight capital of the world. You can’t just bring something to Las Vegas,” Sonnen further added.
