Jared Cannonier is one of the most dangerous fighters in the UFC middleweight division. ‘The Killa Gorilla’ is currently ranked No.3 in the UFC rankings and won his last fight against Kelvin Gastelum via unanimous decision. Cannonier has been fighting since 2011 and at the age of 37 is still going strong.

Recently Cannonier appeared for an interview with Submission Radio. During the interview, they asked Cannonier about the motivation behind his fighting and whether money plays a role in that.

Talking about that, Cannonier said, “You know, like I’ve said this in the past, I don’t fight to make money. I just so happen to make good money from my fighting. I fight because I love to do this. And that’s it, man, that’s my stance. It’s not only because you know I would like to accumulate some more money.”

“There’s a reason I’m fighting or I won’t wait for the title. I’m not gonna wait for the title because I need that fight. You know what I’m saying? I need to get my hands on somebody. It’s not the money, it’s not the lack of money, the reason I need to fight.”

“I need to fight because I need to put my hands on somebody. I need to get in there and get better and I need that competition that’s going to make me better.”

‘The Killa Gorilla’ clearly loves to fight and does not believe money to be a motivator for that. This is evident every time Cannonier enters the Octagon, as the fighter always gives his 100%.

What next for Jared Cannonier?

Ever since Cannonier defeated Kelvin Gastelum in his last fight. There has been much speculation as to who the fighter will face next. The most obvious next fight for Cannonier is against Derek Brunson. However, that seems unlikely, as Brunson may believe he has done enough to become the next title challenger.

However, as the fight between Adesanya and Whittaker has not been scheduled yet, it would make sense for a fight between Cannonier and Brunson to happen.
