Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira have had a long-standing rivalry that spans beyond their two UFC bouts. The two fighters first met in the kickboxing ring in 2016, where Pereira defeated Adesanya. Their second kickboxing match in 2017 saw Pereira winning again, this time by KO.

The two then crossed paths again in the MMA world, with Pereira getting the upper hand in their first encounter at UFC 281. But Adesanya was determined to take back the title from his long-time rival. And Adesanya did get his revenge this time. He defeated Pereira by KO in the second round.
