‘It’s Unfortunate’- Alexander Volkanovski Gutted to See Khabib Nurmagomedov Retire From the UFC

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski was set to fight Brian Ortega at UFC 260. However, a positive COVID test forced the champion to withdraw from the pay-per-view. The Aussie will coach TUF alongside ‘T-City’. However, the 145lbs champion keeps a close eye on the proceedings of the UFC. He was saddened to see former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov retire from the sport.

Speaking to Helen Yee recently, Volkanovski said, “Yeah. You know, it’s, it’s, it’s unfortunate, obviously, you know, good on him. He’s got a great career. But I mean, you know, you watch, you’ve been watching these fighters for years.”

And you know, he’s finally you know, right up there, and he’s gonna retire, you know, so you see legends of the sport, you know, so it always sucks to see to see them leave. But at the same time, you know, he thinks he’s done with the sport. Now he’s coach, and he’s doing a good job there. So, good on him,” added ‘The Great’.

The Eagle‘ has had unmatched achievements inside the Octagon. His legend will remain unrivaled in the near future. The Dagestani superstar is currently focused on coaching duties. He is looking to help his teammates like Islam Makhachev, Luke Rockhold, and cousins Umar and Usman Nurmagomedov.

The Russian was undefeated in his career. No matter how stiff the competition was, he proved too good a puzzle to be solved. As mentioned earlier, he is currently pursuing coaching duties. Whether he will be as successful in his new role remains to be seen. But he’s got some world-class pupils at his disposal.

Makhachev and both his cousins are prospects with the potential to be the very bests in the world. And Rockhold is a former WEC and UFC middleweight champion and was one of the finest fighters in his prime. Whether ‘The Eagle’ can help them realize their potentials or get them back on track remains to be seen.
