Speaking on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, the podcaster recalled the one time he crashed into the mat like a log cut off of its roots. On a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, the podcaster sat down with the WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle and comedian Tony Hinchcliff.

The three talked about things like the WWE-UFC merger, Vince McMahon, and Prime Hydration. The trio started talking about Alister Overeem, and when you’re talking about Overeem, how can you not talk knockouts? This is when Rogan brought up the time he was knocked out.

Joe Rogan mentions getting knocked out

Joe Rogan and his guests first enjoyed a clip of Alistair Overeem getting socked in the face by Francis Ngannou. The infamous knockout happened back in 2017 at UFC 218. The trio slowed the video down and backed it up to see Overeem get sent to the nether realms by a mean right sledgehammer-like punch.

“You ever been knocked out?” asked Angle as the three reviewed the clip. “Not out cold. I got TKO’d in my last kickboxing fight, but I’ve never been knocked out like that. I’ve seen a lot of people,” says Rogan.

Rogan is a celebrated fighter himself. He started off his career with tae kwon do, and there was this one time when he knocked his opponent out with a heel kick. The fighter was knocked out cold to the extent that he didn’t get up at all. It scared Rogan to a great extent.

He eventually moved on to kickboxing. The UFC caster then had to stop that as well for good because he wasn’t prepared for the form of martial arts. “Dudes were beating the sh*t out of me because I was realizing I can’t keep people at the same distance anymore because I didn’t know how to use my hands properly.” he once told Mike Tyson on an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience. Clearly, getting beaten and knocked out had an effect on Joe, even though it wasn’t as bad as Overeem meeting the mat.

What else did the three discuss?

The three of them also discussed why famous influencers like Logan Paul join fighting tournaments and organizations like the WWE. Hinchcliff suggested that lots of famous personalities join the game to promote their brands and make money. Meanwhile, Angle recalled the one time he was supposed to pretend to be knocked out. But went out cold for real instead.
