Former UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov appeared at the Hotboxin’ Podcast of Mike Tyson recently. Former two-division UFC champion, Henry Cejudo, was also present alongside ‘The Eagle’. While chatting, Nurmagomedov explained why he jumped the Octagon after submitting Conor McGregor at UFC 229.

After successfully defending his belt for the first time against the Irishman, Nurmagomedov jumped off the cage to attack McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis. A huge melee broke out in the process as the Dagestani’s teammates entered the cage to attack McGregor as well.

Talking to ‘Iron Mike’, ‘The Eagle’ revealed what prompted him to actually cause one of the most controversial moments in UFC history.

Okay, when I catch his neck and I choke him like he tap you know. And I think hey, you bring like thousands people from Ireland here from different part of world, and you tap in front of them. And you talk like about warrior or something like this? How you can tap? Go sleep. Go sleep,” said the Russian, recalling the fight.

And he tap and I was like, okay, it’s not enough. I need something you know, like. And I see some his corners like talk with me and I think oh, I have to bite his heart you know,” Nurmagomedov further added.

Conor McGregor talked too much trash to Khabib Nurmagomedov in the build-up

The Irish fighter’s mind games have been a big reason for his success in his career. He almost never fails to get under his opponent’s skin. But with someone like ‘The Eagle’, it made little to no effect. In fact, that only led to Nurmagomedov being more determined to get the better of McGregor.

McGregor spared no boundaries to provoke Nurmagomedov. And that backfired as he got the worst of the post-fight melee. The action from Nurmagomedov to jump the cage was something he should have avoided as well. But at least, the fans know what prompted him to do so.
