Although Ian Garry is a polarizing figure, he recently found himself in the good books of the fans after his son created a buzz on the internet. Apparently, the Irishman asked ChatGPT about welterweight title contender Jack Della Maddalena‘s favorite food, and interestingly, M&Ms popped up. As a result, Garry sent his son, Leo, to Maddalena during the recent UFC 315 media day, asking him to gift the Australian a pack of the chocolate snack, sending the fans into a meltdown.

The Aussie accepted Leo’s gift, high-fived him, but kept the treat aside as it could be a hindrance to his weight cut. And this was apparently Garry’s hilarious sabotage plan, who is serving as the headliner’s backup fighter. So good so far? Well, not really! During the recent UFC 315 presser, the Aussie title challenger got hit with the question about whether that gesture from Ian Garry distracted him since he was preparing for a title fight.

Well, the Australian star, surprisingly, shared a reply that not many people were hoping to hear. He first decided to answer the part about the Irishman’s son. It seems like Della Maddalena isn’t quite convinced that the kid who gifted him the M&Ms was Garry’s son. In addition to that, the Perth native also added that he actually doesn’t like the chocolate snack, unlike what ChatGPT suggested. “I don’t think that’s actually Ian’s son. But I don’t like M&M’s,” Maddalena told the reporter during the UFC 315 presser.

Well, Ian Garry may have his motives behind the distraction and attempt to sabotage, since he’s the backup fighter. Any possible issues from both Maddalena and Belal Muhammad‘s camps can see ‘The Future’ coming in to fight for the title. But would it matter for Jack Della Maddalena if it’s Garry that he ends up fighting? Well, apparently not because the Australian has shown no fear.

Jack Della Maddalena is confident about beating Ian Garry if the champion fails to show up

Taking on Ian Garry would be vastly different than taking on Belal Muhammad, for whom Jack Della Maddalena had been training ahead of their title fight this weekend. But ever since the Irishman was announced to be the backup fighter for UFC 315’s headliner after his UFC Des Moines win over Carlos Prates, the Australian national had been preparing low-key for Garry as well. In fact, Maddalena claims to have no issues with that at all.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Ian Garry's M&M stunt cross the line, or is it all in good fun?

Have an interesting take?

“Yeah, 100% I’ll be comfortable fighting Garry. That’s a fight that’s gonna happen and I’ve mentally prepared myself for that fight,” Jack Della Maddalena told ‘MMA Junkie’. “I reckon I could take him out. He had a good win. This is a dangerous guy.” However, he did not take away the fact that Garry poses a significant threat since he’s one of the top stars in the promotion.

While lauding the Irishman for taking up the backup role on short notice, Maddalena added, “Not many people do that sort of thing. Step in… So good on him, you know… It is what it is, but I think me and Belal is on and can’t see anything happening between me and Belal, but yeah. If anything changes, then no worries.” It will be interesting to see how things pan out.
