The heavyweight boasts a record of 15 wins with only 5 defeats. His first-ever defeat came against Francis Ngannou in 2020, in which the former champion knocked him out within a few seconds of the very first round. His knockout became a highlight reel for the ‘Predator,’ and the Surinamese striker had to work his way back up.

According to MMA Junkie, while reflecting on the loss, he said, “It happens in fights. And, yeah, a defeat, a loss is always not good. It’s not nice, and yeah it sucks. Now I’m back in the gym training hard, and let’s try again. Let’s get back in the Octagon, which is what I’m looking forward to the most.”
He lost 3 out of his next five bouts after that. The heavyweight star tasted defeat twice in 2021. First, against Ciryl Gane via a unanimous decision, and second, against Curtis Blaydes via a unanimous decision again.
In 2022, he went 1-1 after he suffered a consecutive defeat, this time against Alexander Volkov. However, he made his comeback and got back in the win column against Chris Daukaus to finish the year on a high. 2023 disappointed the 35-year-old as he lost yet again, this time a submission loss to Jailton Almeida. That being said, he has a chance to redeem himself and looks forward to his upcoming match-up.

In a matter of hours, he will make the walk to face the undefeated fighter that is, Shamil Gaziev. However, the #12-ranked heavyweight fighter is far from intimidated and is prepared for any circumstance the fight may present. In an interview, ahead of the fight, he revealed that he does not mind the fight going the distance but looks forward to a stoppage.
In the interview, he said, “I’ll bring the fire, put this guy away. Both you and Gage have a habit of finishing the fight early.” He added, “If the opportunity appears, I’ll put it away, but I’m able to go five rounds, and I have five rounds to do it. So we’ll see tomorrow night.”
