In the world of MMA, Twitter is the place where most of the controversies come from. From a fighter taking a dig at someone, to them expressing their willingness to fight a particular fighter. Everything happens over at Twitter and all it takes is one major event and the place blows up.
UFC 278 was one of those events that got the crowd and everyone buzzing. The arena blew up for the co-main and the main event, and so did the social media.

Reactions were pouring in for the co-main event that saw Luke Rockhold and Paulo Costa go on a three-round war. Social media star and celebrity boxer, Jake Paul and famous media journalist, Ariel Helwani, went back on forth on Twitter over this bout.
Ariel Helwani vs Jake Paul on Twitter
It started with Helwani giving a reaction to the fight over Twitter. He then received a response from Paul, saying, “dog sh*t Ariel”. Perplexed by the response, Helwani asked, “Why? Incredible heart.”
The YouTuber replied, “these people are paid for skill and that was dog sh*t.” The journalist dissented and said, “Couldn’t disagree more. Luke is a legend. Respect to him.”

The boxer again had his thoughts to share, “Imagine me on my knees begging for air in my fights… what would people say? I’m a legend.. lol no they’d call me a YouTuber … YALL are sick and twisted with your favoritism and delusion”
Luke has been doing this for over a decade. He hasn’t fought for 3+ years. He almost had his leg amputated. Broke his jaw in his last fight. This has nothing to do with you. I’ve never said that about you. If you can’t respect what that man just overcame I don’t know what to say

This seemed to ignite Helwani. He replied to Paul, “Luke has been doing this for over a decade. He hasn’t fought for 3+ years. He almost had his leg amputated. Broke his jaw in his last fight. This has nothing to do with you. I’ve never said that about you. If you can’t respect what that man just overcame I don’t know what to say”
The conversation went further, where both parties shared their contrasting opinion. Helwani showcased his full support to Rockhold till the very end. He (Helwani) garnered massive support from the crowd as well.
Luke Rockhold Announces Retirement at UFC 278
While the main event stole the show, it was the co-main event that started it all. Luke Rockhold and Paulo Costa battled it out in a three-round classic. By the end of the fight, Both fighters were completely exhausted. Rockhold, who seemed exhausted after the very first round, pushed himself to the very end. Fans cheered for the former Middleweight champion for displaying tremendous heart.

After the fight, people saw the American announce his retirement. He was in tears while speaking to Joe Rogan, in the post-fight interview. Rockhold said, “I’ve been through soo much last three years…Thank you fighting, thank you UFC, thank you, Joe. I fu*king can’t do this sh*t anymore. I gave my all and I just didn’t. I’m fu*king old.”
