It’s been a while since the fight between Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev took place. The bout which ended in a draw left many fans divided, with a section of them even questioning the judges in the event that saw another questionable decision in the co-main fight between Paddy Pimblett and Jared Gordon. Jan Blachowicz, who seemed to have resigned himself to the judge’s decision during his post-fight interaction with Joe Rogan, came out recently, claiming that he didn’t appreciate the longtime UFC commentator’s choice of words.

UFC Hall of Famer Chael Sonnen, in a recent video on his YouTube channel, defended Blachowicz for expressing himself and not shying away from making a statement. He shared his views on the fight’s outcome while also talking about Joe Rogan’s comments during the post-fight interview.

Chael Sonnen on the comment made by Joe Rogan

As fans who watched the fight will know, Joe Rogan during the post-fight interview voiced his opinion by claiming that Magomed Ankalaev won the bout. This might not have settled down too well with Jan Blachowicz, as in an interview with MMAFighting he criticized Rogan stating the commentator shouldn’t have said something like that to him right after the fight.

Sonnen, in this regard, also sides with the Polish man. “Jan came out angry in this interview, which I like. He called Rogan out, which he thinks is rude. He said that it hurt his feelings and that he didn’t think it was right which I like.” He added “Jan Blachowicz has the right to be p*ssed. Jan won two rounds against two.

Although he also urges fans to pay heed to Blachowicz‘s opinion on the fight rather than Rogan’s comments. “Joe Rogan’s gonna say what he saw, and we can debate back and forth whether that was polite or not.” quoted Sonnen.

Staying true to ‘The American Gangster’s words, it would be a better option for fans to call out for a number one contender fight instead of focussing on what went down in the post-fight interview. With the Light Heavyweight title on the line at UFC 283 between Glover Teixeira and Jamahal Hill, also with Jiří Procházka on the sidelines, the UFC has to decide whether a rematch between Ankalaev and Blachowicz could take place or if they have something else in mind.

Chael Sonnen talks about the Jan Blachowicz vs Magomed Ankalaev situation

Coming to the fight against Ankalev, ‘The American Gangster’ claimed that he initially felt Blachowicz tried to portray himself as a good sport by saying Ankalev won the fight, even raising his opponent’s hand as a gesture of good sportsmanship. “I thought that was Jan over-correcting, attempting to be a good sport,” stated Sonnen

The 45 years old Sonnen then claimed that he felt Blachowicz won the fight while also pondering on a rematch to decide on the number one contender spot. “Who’s gonna be the number one contender? Who’s next? If we don’t know who’s next, what match-up, will we have to identify who’s next….I don’t hate the idea of Ankalaev vs Blachowicz.” said the former UFC star.
