Last weekend’s UFC Vegas 110 received a rather lukewarm response from the fight community, as it was perceived as being somewhat underwhelming. However, the Fight Night event has been dominating the headlines of late, and not for reasons Dana White would be happy about. Fixing allegations on the main card matchup between Isaac Dulgarian and Yadier Del Valle, which ended in controversy, has marred the event. Furthermore, the referee of that fight, Jason Herzog, has also come under scrutiny.

Jason Herzog is one of the most recognizable names in MMA officiating, but he’s been called out for making messy decisions while refereeing UFC fights. However, the negative sentiment regarding his work has grown in the MMA community, and on X, many fans took aim at Herzog, accusing him of playing a role in fixing fights. After hearing what the fans had to say, the veteran referee has broken his silence.

Jason Herzog responds to fans after UFC Vegas 110 fallout
First of all, Jason Herzog has made it clear that despite the accusations of fixing fights laid on him by the UFC fans, he’s not going to take any legal action. Instead, he wants to “troll” them. He kept his responses to the fans civil and reminded everybody that refereeing a fight is often the most difficult job in the sport of MMA. “To be fair to the critics, I’m in a position where the decisions you make are scrutinized. And some of the decisions could have been or should have been different. That’s fine to a point. But the point you need to arrive at after scrutiny is, that’s the right call,” Herzog wrote on X.
Saying, “People say it’s the best seat in the house. I’d say it’s the hottest,” Jason Herzog asserts that the fans may love getting to see the action inside the cage from close-up, but it’s a very demanding task to make the right moves as a referee at the right time. With rumors that the FBI might be involved in the investigation, the fans also seem to be demanding the same to be done with Herzog. Meanwhile, one fan decided to get some answers from the referee himself, especially about the eye pokes and why some fights are called off while other fights tend to continue, which is what happened in the fight between Henry Cejudo and Song Yadong, this past February at UFC Fight Night 252.

On the @WeighingIn podcast John describes exactly why we had to go through that mechanic. It certainly was clunky, and luckily the rules committee will make some adjustments that allow it not to be like that in the future. https://t.co/MBMMkwriIv

Well, Jason Herzog claims that he did everything that was asked of him by the commission. Reminding fans about the breakdown of the incident that John McCarthy did, the veteran referee added, “On the [Weighing In] podcast, John describes exactly why we had to go through that mechanic. It certainly was clunky, and luckily, the rules committee will make some adjustments that allow it not to be like that in the future.”

The UFC has yet to release any statement about the UFC Vegas 110 drama and the fixing allegations, but they did take some serious action. Following the controversial end to the Dulgarian and Del Valle fight, Dana White and Co. decided to part ways with the loser of that fight.

UFC releases Isaac Dulgarian
Dana White and Co. are certainly hearing what the UFC fans have had to say about the UFC Vegas 110 debacle because they took a drastic step. Isaac Dulagarian was the favorite to beat Yadier Del Valle last weekend, as the oddsmakers placed his opponent as the underdog. But the fact that he lost in a sketchy fashion may not have set well with the executives, because Ariel Helwani claims the promotion quietly parted ways with Dulgarian.
“The official reason was attributed to last night’s loss. However, the bout has been the center of controversy after a ton of money started to come in on Dulgarian, a sizable favorite, to lose in the first, which is what happened,” Helwani wrote on X. Well, it may look like Isaac Dulgarian has been released because he lost his fight last week, but it’s important to note that he used to train under now-banned James Krause, who was also involved in a betting scandal a few years ago. Could this be the UFC’s step to avoid any and all connections to Krause? We can’t be too sure.
Coming back to Jason Herzog, the 47-year-old has been in the fight game for a long time, and he does have people defending him from the allegations that have been leveled at him. However, he’s still under scrutiny, and certain sources claim that many of the fights he’s officiated have now been flagged by the FBI. We will have to wait for further developments on this front.
