Covington took the win over Masvidal with a unanimous decision and issued a challenge to his next target.

In the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Colby Covington said, “Now onto business, Joe. I just took care of Miami street trash. Now it’s time to take care of Louisiana swamp trash! Where you at Dustin Poirier, you c***. You said it’s on sight. Name the site, Dustin. Bring that j***bel of a wife and bring that little kid… and I’ll see you soon. You’re next!

Hence, it is clear that ‘Chaos’ wants Dustin Poirier next. If this goes down, it will be another bad grudge match as ‘The Diamond‘ is friends with ‘Gamebred’ and has his own issues with Covington from their time at ATT.

Dustin Poirier reacted to Covington’s call-out within minutes. We’ll leave the interpretation of Poirier’s tweet to the fight fans.

As the number 2 ranked lightweight of the UFC has previously expressed his hatred and contempt for Covington, this perfectly sets up a cross-division super fight. Here, Covington will look to secure consecutive wins for the first time since 2019.

Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal – A breakdown of the Gladiator showdown

Colby Covington may be the villain, but his skills always speak otherwise. He repeatedly proves to be the second-best welterweight in the world. With a dominant performance, Covington bested ‘Gamebred’ in most of the moments.

Jorge Masvidal started the fight off with a running knee attempt. After a few moments of testing each other out, the BMF landed a powerful right leg kick on Covington. However, ‘Chaos’ remained unperturbed and played to his strengths as he forced Masvidal into the cage. Once there, he secured the clinch after an effective level change.

After a round that predominantly lasted on the ground, Masvidal got to his feet. Before round two, Covington received a stern warning for an eye poke on Masvidal.

Round 2 was looking better for Masvidal owing to him landing a substantial amount of strikes. Jabs, hooks, and leg kicks were on the menu for Colby as he ate most of them with ease. Masvidal, however, was backed into the cage once more for a clinch by Covington, who also landed a low blow.

‘Chaos’ unleashed an insane amount of pressure on ‘Gamebred’

The following round was a ground and pound fest for Covington, as he landed powerful strikes while being on top of Masvidal. The BMF facilitated a beautiful exchange of reversals post-Covington’s failure to grab Masvidal’s neck. Despite all that, Covington was on top of Masvidal and didn’t relent from his game plan to unleash insane pressure on his former friend.

The next round was a crucial lapse of judgment on Masvidal’s past as he failed to capitalize on a strike to Covington that left the latter stunned. His decision to take it slow and steady post that moment gave Covington all the time to regain his composure once more.

Things finally went irreversibly south for Masvidal as the round ended with a few strikes, which both fighters could not convert to a knockout. The fifth and final round was a test of stamina and wrestling, with Covington emerging dominant as he did throughout.

With no submission and a knockout, the fight ended with an unsurprising Covington win.

Despite such a great show put on by both these warriors, Masvidal couldn’t help but get dominated by one of the world’s best. With that being said, Masvidal admitted that his wrestling prowess let him down and stated that he would come back stronger.
