Jamahal Hill feels he was ‘cheated’ by Alex Pereira in their UFC 300 clash. ‘Poatan’ of course, knocked out ‘Sweet Dreams’ in the very first round of their clash. But Hill has claimed that ‘Poatan’ took advantage of a break in the action to close the distance with him and land the fatal blow. Of course, most see it as the American just being a sore loser and trying to save face, including former light heavyweight champ Jiri Prochazka.

On being asked what he thought about Hill’s excuses for the Pereira loss, this is what ‘The Czech Samurai’, who is set to fight Hill at UFC 311 this weekend, had to say. “There was the point when he [Hill] kicked him [Pereira] in the balls. That was this moment [that Hill talks about]. But you have to stay focused all the time, all the fight. So for me to speak about, how to say, to argue about his weakness, trying to tell everyone that this mistake was of the referee… Accept it, accepted you lost the fight, man. I accepted the last time the same that I lost with Alex really badly. And that was not mistake of anyone, just mine,” Prochazka told ‘Shak MMA’ in an interview.

Of course, the break-in action that Hill blames for his loss to Pereira came after he landed a low blow (or rather a low kick) on ‘Poatan’. This prompted referee Herb Dean to try and intervene, only for Pereira to wave him off and catch ‘Sweet Dreams’ with one of his legendary left hooks to end the proceedings.

And as Prochazka pointed out, Hill has no one to blame but himself for this. After all, you are supposed to protect yourself at all times. And if you don’t and get knocked out because of it, there’s no use blaming your opponent. But then again, Prochazka cannot lecture Hill since he is no stranger to making excuses after a loss to Alex Pereira.

Jiri Prochazka’s early stoppage excuse after UFC 295 loss

Prochazka has fought and lost to Pereira twice- at UFC 295 in November 2023 and at UFC 303 last year. In their first fight, Pereira caught Prochazka with a powerful right hook in the fifth minute of the second round, which staggered the Czech. But instead of crashing to the canvas, Prochazka grabbed Pereira’s legs and tried to take him down as the Brazilian rained elbows on him.

In the end, Prochazka managed to complete the takedown but ‘Poatan’ took the top and started to ground and pound him. Referee Marc Goddard stepped in and ended the fight, declaring ‘Poatan’ the winner via TKO. But since ‘The Czech Samurai’ wasn’t blacked out and was still struggling when the stoppage was made, many, including commentators Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier, felt that the stoppage was premature.

Prochazka, who could have used this as an excuse, came out with a video saying that Goddard made the right call days later. But after a few months, the Czech former champion took a complete U-turn and declared that the Pereira stoppage was indeed premature, which officially counts as an excuse.

While Prochazka’s excuse may not be as egregious and vacuous as Hill’s, it is still an excuse, and the Czech would do well to remember the old saying about those who live in glass houses. What do you think about Jiri Prochazka’s take on Hill’s excuse for the Pereira loss?
