It’s literally impossible for anyone to forget about the legendary KO that propelled Conor McGregor’s stardom to even greater heights back in 2015. You got it! We are talking about the time when the ‘Mystic Mac’ KO’d Jose Aldo in a mere 13 seconds. Well, ‘Junior Mac’ was already one of the strongest prospects when he met McGregor at UFC 194. But no one really expected it all to end in just 13 seconds. No doubt, people started dropping in awe.

Let me tell you, that was a time when Khabib Nurmagomedov truly admired ‘The Notorious’. He had already predicted that McGregor was going to finish the Brazilian Hall of Famer. The Dagestani legend had uplifted McGregor’s striking prowess and said, “I think he can beat Jose Aldo, maybe finish him. But a lot of people think Jose Aldo beat him but, in my opinion, I think [Conor] kills him.”

Although Nurmagomedov expected a KO, he definitely did not expect it all to get over in just 13 seconds. And just when McGregor dropped Aldo, it sent a massive shockwave through the fighting community. Joe Rogan was left with wide eyes and a gaping mouth. Well, he simply couldn’t seem to believe what really happened. Nurmagomedov also shook his head in disbelief.

About 9 years later, the video of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Joe Rogan’s reaction to the impeccable KO resurfaced when @themma.fanatic took to Instagram and shared their reactions in a video captioned, “Greatest moment of all time?” Needless to say, the Irishman shared the visuals on his IG story as soon as he stumbled upon it. It was indeed the moment that pushed McGregor through the road to greatness.

Following the fight, Conor McGregor weighed in on the left fist that destroyed Aldo. Talking to Rogan, the ‘Mystic Mac’ said, “Nobody can take that left-hand shot. I tell you, he’s powerful, and he’s fast, but precision beats power and timing beats speed.” But he did feel for the Brazilian. Nevertheless, UFC 194 showed something that would have happened sooner or later. But who knew that this respect would make McGregor ask for a change in the MMA rules?

Conor McGregor suggests a change as he defends Jose Aldo’s UFC 307 loss

Following a loss against Alexander Volkanovski, Aldo decided to restart his career as a bantamweight. However, his plans didn’t work out well, as he lost the first 2 bouts in the bantamweight realm. But that didn’t stop him. His most recent fight was against Mario Bautista, who defeated Aldo via a split decision. This indeed saddened the entire world of mixed martial arts. But it was McGregor who rallied the fight fans to protest against Aldo’s controversial loss

Standing in defense of Jose Aldo, McGregor took to X and wrote, “As referee, if the fighters go to the same place of [stall] over and over I would be putting the position on a clock. And each time they end back there the clock goes shorter. 30 second clock. 20 second clock, 10 second, 8 second, 6 second etc etc etc Separate, seperate, separate. No point prolonging these positions as if they haven’t taken place exactly the same way prior and nothing has taken place but stawling. My opinion.”

No doubt, the battle between Aldo and Bautista was truly entertaining, with Aldo making an equal stand against his opponent. However, it was Bautista’s ‘effective grappling’ that got him the win, even though his takedowns failed miserably. This further provoked the Irishman to push forth the ‘McGregor Clock’. He continued, “REFEREES NEED TO BE ON POINT HERE. For the fans!”

What do you think of the relationship between Aldo and McGregor? Do you think the 13-second KO at UFC 194 was the greatest moment in MMA history? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
