Joe Rogan understands the game of MMA like none other. The podcaster recently had the opportunity to host Dan Auerbach, and drummer Patrick Carney from The Black Keys on “JRE” #2118. Their conversation soon took a turnaround from the realm of music to the realm of fighting, when discussing about none other than Steven Seagal.

Aikido won’t work on wrestlers according to Joe Rogan

For the JRE #2118 episode, Joe Rogan confessed that Aikido might work for some people but against wrestlers, it’s nothing. The trio engaged in a conversation revolving around American actor, Steven Seagal, and the musician duo praised Seagal for being a profound martial artist. Rogan stated that Seagal’s a legit Aikido specialist and might be a good fighter as well.

Rogan further explained the deep knowledge behind the inception of Aikido and explained that it might be better for sword fights but against wrestlers it’s useless. “It was invented for samurai to fight against someone with a sword, right? So it’s all about a redistribution of energy. It’s all about “I commit to you, and then you throw me to the ground,” said Rogan

He further added, “The problem with that is if someone doesn’t commit, someone just grabs you and wrestles you like a Division One wrestler. The Aikido guy has 0 chance. There’s never gonna be a chance in hell you’re gonna stop Daniel Cormier from taking you down. There’s a zero chance. He grabs you, and you are going for a ride 100% of the time.”

Steven Seagal has been an amazing martial artist but Joe Rogan believes his art won’t work against someone like Daniel Cormier. However, do not take Rogan’s criticism as his final verdict on Seagal, he is a big fan of the actor.

The time when Rogan praised Steven Seagal

Back in 2019, while in conversation with the former bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling on ‘JRE MMA Show’ #70, Rogan praised Seagal as a martial artist. “The thing is, Seagal was a legit Aikido specialist,” said Rogan

He further added, “Just because a guy seems kind of silly, you forget he had a real, legit history with Aikido. He as the first American to ever teach at a dojo in Japan. He speaks fluent Japanese, and he is a legitimate Aikido master — 100%, absolutely legitimate Aikido master. I’m not bullsh**ting man, His Aikido is 100% legitimate.”

It shouldn’t be a surprise for everyone to witness Rogan being flabbergasted by a fellow martial artist considering that he himself has an extensive knowledge of martial arts. Nonetheless, what’s your take on Stevan Seagal? State your thoughts in the comments below.
