Valentina Shevchenko vs. Alexa Grasso surely lived up to the hype. While it looked like Grasso dominated the match in the beginning, Shevchenko made sure that Grasso got to spend more of her fight on her back while the Kyrgyzstani dominated from above. Making it a truly one-sided bout!

This was their third match, the decider that proved who was the better fighter. And now, the debate has come to an end as Shevchenko became the new UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion by unanimous decision. A fight that would truly be remembered for her dominance, and one that might be the very last one between the two.

Why do we say it’s the last? That’s because, on commentary, Joe Rogan has openly opposed a fourth match between the two fighters. Since it was already a third, according to Rogan, Valentina Shevchenko should now be booked to face other fighters. This deciding bout has already proved to the world that the Kyrgyzstani is truly the better fighter and would not be a good draw for the UFC to organize a fourth match. Especially when Bullet managed to run her opponent through the ground to reclaim the belt.

Despite the same height and reach of of 5′ 5″ and 66″ respectively, Shevchenko managed to take down Grasso four times already by the time the third round ended. The Mexican managed a kimura and a headlock as the only effectively connected offensive moves. While it looked like the headlock had the fight in Grasso’s bag the Kyrgyzstani managed to slip out and continued with her dominance till round five with her continuous takedowns, a total of eight, to become the new UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion.

So who’s up next for the new Featherweight champion?

Well, the next in line for the title could be none other than #2-ranked Manon Fiorot. For the unaware, Fiorot was already kept as the backup for the fight in case any of the fighters were to suffer an injury and be unable to be a part of the match. But now that the ordeal is done and dusted and Shevchenko won the bout, her next opponent would most likely be the 34-year-old.

And while her name may not be as big as Grasso’s, Fiorot brings an impressive MMA record of 12-1 with twelve consecutive wins after the very first loss she faced in her professional debut back in 2018. Since then, she has gone ahead and decimated anyone who dared stand against her. So it surely would be an interesting fight since Fiorot is a point striker with a height advantage of two inches. And it’s time for the new Featherweight champion to brace up for the next fight.
