Elon Musk has officially announced that he is stepping away from politics. The Tesla CEO, of course, had been one of President Donald Trump’s strongest supporters and helped him get elected in the 2024 election. After which, the South Africa born billionaire was appointed to the Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE), which made some pretty controversial decisions such as gutting USAID, and firing federal employees.

Pretty soon, Musk became incredibly unpopular, with polls over the past few months showing a majority of Americans having an unfavorable view of him. Musk’s unpopularity and the fact that almost half the country detests him have also led to some backlash against his companies, most notably Tesla. The car company not only lost a whopping $700 billion market value since 2024, but Tesla cars have also been a target of anti-Musk vandals.

You may remember the news of a Tesla dealership being set on fire or people damaging Tesla cars because of their opposition to Musk and his actions. The anti-Tesla sentiment got so bad that some Tesla users have even started posting anti-Musk messages on their Tesla to protect their cars. And Joe Rogan, good friends with Elon Musk and a proud Tesla owner, can totally relate to these fears.

“I think most of them are just scared their car is going to get f—ed up if they leave it somewhere,” Rogan told star NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers on episode #2325 of the JRE podcast. “I think about that when I park my Tesla, I think about that… There’s a lot of kooky liberals out here. I get side eye from people.”

Indeed, that is a very legitimate fear for Rogan to have. As we have mentioned, Tesla cars have become an easy target for people opposed to Musk. As you can imagine, the ever-outspoken Tesla CEO was incensed at these incidents and had some very hard words for the vandals.

“I’m not somebody who has ever committed violence. And yet, massive violence was committed against my companies, and massive violence was threatened against me. Who are these people? Why would they do that? How wrong can they be? They’re on the wrong side of history. And that’s an evil thing to do. To go and damage some poor innocent person’s car,” Musk said in Qatar last week. But Musk and Rogan need not fear much since they have the might of the entire US government behind them.

FBI and DOJ threaten to bring terrorism charges against Elon Musk owned Tesla vandals

Pam Bondi, the US Attorney General, has claimed that the Tesla vandalism is “nothing short of domestic terrorism” and promised to “impose severe consequences on those involved in these attacks.” Which was surprising to many. How could vandalism qualify as an act of terror?

What’s your perspective on:

Are the FBI's terrorism charges against Tesla vandals justified, or an overreach of power?

Have an interesting take?

Well, according to counter-terrorism expert, Bruce Hoffman, vandalism, “if it’s committed with a political motive, can certainly be defined as terrorism.” And since the Tesla vandalism is done with explicit political motives– i.e. expressing opposition to Musk and DOGE’s actions, the Department of Justice feels that it qualifies as terrorism.

Moreover, the FBI also agrees with this sentiment, with Director Kash Patel also classifying it as domestic terrorism. The Bureau has also launched a formal task force to investigate the spate of Tesla vandalism and bring the vandals to justice. Perhaps that is why the incidence of people managing or vandalizing Teslas has dramatically decreased with no new cases reported in the month of May. So while Joe Rogan’s fears about his Tesla being damaged are not unfounded, he probably doesn’t have much to worry about at the moment. What do you think about Joe Rogan’s fearing for his Tesla’s well-being?
