The Joe Rogan Experience is all the rage

The pre͏vailing notion ͏surrounding the ‘JRE’ was that the podcast was tailored for a male audience. With Rogan leading the show, hosting mostly male guests, and the host’s affiliation with the UFC and love for everything martial arts, it’s easy to perceive how that perception came to be. However, his work has raked in listeners from more than just the male section of society.

As per a report from Edison Research from July 2023, JRE is the no. 2 most-listened-to show for women over 13 in the U.S. An infographic of the same found its way to Reddit, where fans shared their surprise at the data. Further, a report for the third quarter of 2023 from the same source had JRE as the top podcast for listeners over the age of 13.

Judging by this popularity, it was no wonder that Spotify was so eager to make a deal with Rogan. The music streaming app’s contract with the 56-year-old was supposed to end this year, but Spotify clinched another mega deal with Rogan reportedly worth a whopping 250 million dollars for four years. Pretty massive if you think about it. However, this is not the only catch. The podcast will now be available on Amazon, Apple, and even YouTube. Seems like Rogan has dictated the terms this time.

With both men and women listening to Rogan, it is natural that he is the most sought-after podcaster in the world right now, but wait. Another interesting report has contradicted Rogan’s female viewership claim.

Podcast popular, listeners unpopular?

A 2023 report by Change Research has suggested that men who listen to the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ are a walking red flag for women and are not potential partners for them. As per the reports, women are ‘turned off’ when they get to know that their partner listens to the podcast.

A study conducted by Change delved into ͏political affiliations, dating preferences, and other aspects ͏of a group consisting of 1,033 individuals. All participants fell within the age range of 18 to ͏34 and were asked to evaluate certain behaviors as either positive (green flag), neutral͏ (beige flag), or negative͏ (red͏ flag) when considering a partner. Women took issue with Rogan, with 55 percent saying that listening to his podcast was a turnoff.

While the Change Research report insinuates that Rogan is not popular among women, the report from Edison suggests a different thing. Nonetheless, what’s your opinion on the reports? Tell us about it in the comments below.
