Jon Jones, yet again, shut down all his critics with a commanding performance against former 2-time heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. A technical knockout win was ‘all she wrote’ as ‘Bones’ successfully defended a title for a record 12th time in the UFC. So what’s next for Jones? Well, Jones doesn’t seem too keen on taking on Tom Aspinall, instead, longtime commentator Joe Rogan likes Jones’ wish to take on the light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira, albeit with a twist.

There’s no more doubt about Jon Jones’ credibility as the heavyweight champion after he bested arguably the greatest heavyweight fighter ever. Although Alex Pereira could put up a good standup game in the heavyweight division, he could suffer against Jon Jones’ relentless pressure, wrestling and excellent grappling skills. “The [Alex] Pereira fight, Pereira could fight at heavyweight. That’ll be insane. I mean, how’s he going to stop the takedowns. [There’s a] big difference in the grappling,” Joe Rogan stated on the post-fight ESPN broadcast, while also adding, “The striking – big difference in the striking. Pereira puts everyone ‘night night’.”

Thereafter, Joe Rogan would express his amazement about Alex Pereira, who’s naturally a pretty big guy, cutting down to middleweight, which his fellow broadcast colleague Daniel Cormier doesn’t think would be possible for Jon Jones. When ‘DC’ said, “Jon can’t make 185”, it prompted Rogan to propose a move for Jones to the light heavyweight division. ‘Bones’ has been there before, and hence, he could do it again.

“I’ll tell you what. He can make 205, though. [I would] want [him] to go down at 205 and fight. [At] light heavyweight, he can easily make that [weight] again. He can do whatever he wants,” the 57-year-old added.

It seems like Joe Rogan’s proposition could be ideal for fans, but for Dana White, a fight between Jon Jones and Alex Pereira doesn’t really make much sense. Let’s hear what the UFC CEO had to say about it.

Dana White heavily leaning toward Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall despite Joe Rogan’s suggestion

Dana White believes that there is no bigger fight than Jon Jones taking on Tom Aspinall, and he’s willing to bet all his money on it. Dana White White believes that there’s an unfair size discrepancy between ‘Bones’ and light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. Hence, it would be a bad decision to green-light that fight.

During the UFC 309 post-fight presser, Dana White said, “There’s no f—ing way I make the Pereira fight. Jon’s too big, a great wrestler. See how he took Stipe down in the first round? I like Alex Pereira. I like him personally. You know, it just doesn’t make sense to make that fight.” It remains to be seen what Alex Pereira and Jon Jones perceive this statement as Tom Aspinall seeks to land that undisputed title fight.

While it isn’t certain who Jones will faced next, Dana White has outright opposed the fight with Alex Pereira. However, during fight week, Jones did mention facing names like Jamahal Hill and Derrick Lewis. At this point, however, Jones seems content with being a two-weight champion. If negotiations go well, we might just get Jones vs. Aspinall for the undisputed heavyweight title next.
