Joe Rogan garnered massive public respect when he stood up to Khamzat Chimaev in the post-fight interview.

Rogan asked Chimaev what was the reason behind his missing the weight. He said, “You came into this fight far overweight. What was that all about?”

Chimaev, who was impenitent throughout, answered in a similar fashion. He screamed on the mic, “I don’t care about that sh*t, I came here to kill that guy. Gotta go for everybody, I come for everybody, I here. Let’s come now.”

Joe Rogan made Khamzat Chimaev address the issue

The UFC commentator showed clear disagreement with the statements made by Borz. He instantly said, “I know you don’t care about that now, but if you want to compete for the welterweight title, it’s important that they know you can make 170 pounds.”

The Chechen realized that he was at fault for not making weight; moreover, he gave Rogan and the public an explanation as well. 

Chimaev explained that he was supposed to make weight; however, due to health concerns, the doctor stopped him from cutting weight further on the morning of the weigh-in day.

The undefeated fighter was supposed to compete at welterweight (170 lbs) against Nate Diaz for the main event of UFC 279; however, he came in at 178.5, missing the weight by 7.5 pounds.

The fight between them was called off, and he replaced Daniel Rodriguez to face Kevin Holland in a catchweight bout (180lbs). While Nate Diaz competed against Tony Ferguson in the main event as a late last-minute shuffle up.

Joe Rogan, on the other hand, became a massive public favorite for his stand against the Swede, furthermore, they also appreciated him for keeping his interview with Nate Diaz very transparent. 

MMA world reacts to Joe Rogan’s interview

Former two-division champion Daniel Cormier praised Rogan on his YouTube channel for asking hard questions to the Chechen. 

“… I love that Joe Rogan asked him the hard questions. He tried to avoid it. I don’t wanna talk about this. Joe goes, ‘No, you have to talk about it’… I love that Joe held his foot to the fire a little bit,” DC said. 

CBS sports analyst Brian Campbell wrote, “Respect the effort from Joe Rogan to make Chimaev answer about weight. #UFC279”

Prominent MMA journalist, Luke Thomas, said, “Credit where it’s due: Joe Rogan didn’t shy away from any contract or boxing talk with Nate Diaz. That was good.”
