Her appearance on UFC 295’s main card was Jessica Andrade‘s fifth bout in 2023. The former UFC strawweight champion was going through an expensive divorce over the year and had to stay active against her better judgment to afford it. ‘Bate Estaca’ opened up about her struggles during the lead-up to the fight and may have earned a few sympathy points from fans. This could be why they did not cut Joe Rogan any slack for his comments during the post-fight interview.

Rogan took Andrade’s interview after her TKO win over her compatriot Mackenzie Dern. The pair discussed the proceedings of the bout as usual, with Andrade mentioning her struggles with the divorce. One remark from Joe Rogan in response rubbed some fans the wrong way and they voiced their dissatisfaction with the JRE host on social media.

Joe Rogan has a habit of diving deep into the personal side of the ones he talks with. He does it mostly in the episodes of his podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’. But during his UFC in-octagon interviews, the 56-year-old appears with a much more calculated and composed persona, mostly limiting his questions to the UFC and fight-related issues of the interviewees.

But, the famous comedian chose to break character during his UFC 295 in-octagon interview with Andrade. The Brazilian had just scored a dominant TKO win over Mackenzie Dern in the second round of their MSG outing. After Rogan, congratulated her, Andrade mentioned her expensive divorce and how it affected her all throughout the year. Rogan responded, Well, hopefully, you get a bonus tonight to pay off those divorce bills.”

While the BJJ black belt may have made the comment in good earnest, it certainly did not please fans on social media. Following are their reactions to the incident.

Rogan never made any evil wish for Andrade. Still, the comments section of an Instagram post that highlighted this moment made it apparent that the majority of fans didn’t take his words too well. A few such comments read:

“Joe had zero decorum in this moment”

“Cold-blooded”

“That not even funny”

“No violation from Joe”

However, one fan pointed out a fact that Andrade was not the only one dealing with a messy divorce. His comment read, Aren’t both Jessica and Mackenzie divorced from each others partners?”. An accurate observation from this fan, which was followed by more Dern sympathizers.

Mackenzie Dern was also carrying the weight of a divorce at UFC 295

It hasn’t been much time since both Dern and Andrade went through their divorces. But a few comments from the fans made it apparent that they had better knowledge about Dern’s divorce. They read:

Reports also state that Dern may have completed the process of her divorce a little before Andrade. But that doesn’t change the fact that these two are pretty much on the same boat when it comes to personal relationships. But whose back did you have while they were inside the octagon?

One take at a time

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC.
